Rules of Argument

RULES OF ARGUMENT

 

  1. Objectivity may be up for debate, but we should approach the arguments of others without the influence of our personal feelings.
  2. We should be willing to recognize strength in arguments whose conclusions you reject and weakness in arguments whose conclusions you accept.

  3. We should keep an open mind, despite the topic of discussion.
  4. Those opposed to our positions are not our enemies.  We are not the enemies of those we disagree with.
  5. Our project is PHILOSOPHY, whatever else we may get caught up in is only a distraction.
